Help protect British Columbia’s coastal waters with the David Suzuki Foundation:
“Join Canadians across the country in calling for government leaders to establish a strong and diverse network of marine protected areas in the coastal waters of British Columbia…
…Few places have such an amazing abundance and diversity of marine life, including tide pools rich with life, underwater kelp forests, ancient glass sponge reefs, pods of killer whales and millions of migrating salmon. The Pacific Coast helps sustain people with food and provide a foundation for art, culture, and recreation inspired by the sea. It is a place where fish, and the people who catch them, have been part of this globally significant ecosystem for generations.
The ocean gives us so much. It’s time for us to give back by ensuring conservation of the incredible marine life we all enjoy. Please send your letter today to ensure our governments create safe havens for the rich diversity of life that make our Pacific Coast such a special place.”

Jon Lien, passed away in 2010 at 71 years old. Between 1978 and 1990, he freed nearly 500 trapped whales. He was a grand master for cetacean (marine mammal) research and conservation for the entire East Coast of Canada. During times, when, as he said “near no one gave a damn about whales), he initiated single-handedly, a marine mammal saving program, with a small boat and a lot of courage to detangle mammals from fishing gear. Eventually his volunteer crew grew, and as did his research on Marine Mammals at Memorial University of Newfoundland. This site is a Memorial Site that was set up for friends of Jon Lien:
Human Planet is an 8-part British television documentary series, produced by the BBC Local, Discovery and BBC Worldwide. Focused on telling a story of our relationship with the natural world, this series shows the most extraordinary ways we, as human beings, have adapted to life in every environment on Earth.
Part 1 is entitled “Oceans: Into The Blue”…and is a truly wonderful journey of the human relationship with the Oceans of Earth.
Of course, being by the calm oceans, and hearing the sounds of the beautiful soft waves are some of my favorite calming sounds (in addition to soft flute and acoustic guitar), We looked for a long time for music on a CD or mp3 that was only Ocean Waves (no birds chirping or mammals singing – even though those are beautiful too). We looked for plain beautiful ocean wave sounds. Recently found 3 with Kelly Howell and Brainsync – One with Alpha Brainwaves for calm, gentle, fun creativity, Two for Theta Waves meditation; and Three with Delta Brainwaves for gooood sleep. Here are the links for all 3.
